Rafael Nadal's best memory - 2007 edition: Third Roland Garros in a row after Borg

Rafael Nadal's career is studded with great successes and incredible records: with 19 Slams he is aiming Roger Federer's record, but the Spaniard has achieved other great goals, such as the twelve triumphs at the Roland Garros and all the titles on clay-courts. For each season, however, there is a particular goal, an achievement that should be highlighted.

In June 2007 Rafael Nadal won his third consecutive Roland Garros; thanks to that goal he became the only tennis player of the Open Era to win three Parisian Slams in a row after Bjorn Borg. An incredible achievement, which projected Nadal even more into the history of tennis, despite his young age.

Nadal started the French Open 2007 as the second seed, and in the first-round match, he faced and defeated Juan Martin del Potro in three sets. He won in straight sets also in the second round against Italian Flavio Cipolla. In the third and fourth round, he eliminated respectively his countryman Albert Montañés and Lleyton Hewitt, always without losing a set.

In the quarter-finals, he humiliated Carlos Moya in three sets (with the third set ended 6-0). Always in straight sets, he beat Novak Djokovic in the semifinal. On the Philippe Chatrier, he met Roger Federer in the final. Nadal lost the only set of his tournament with the Swiss, but the Spaniard defeated his rival for the second consecutive year, beating him with the final score of 6-3 4-6 6-3 6-4, once again proving his superiority on clay-court.

In 2007 Rafa won six titles, among them also Indian Wells, the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters and the Italian Open. He faced Roger Federer also in the Wimbledon final, but that time the Swiss Maestro prevailed, despite Rafael Nadal's improvements on grass-courts:

"What was the perfect match? I would say the 2007 Wimbledon final. Nadal and I really played good tennis. I won my fifth consecutive Wimbledon, in the fifth set, under the eyes of Bjorn Borg, who was my idol. If there is a perfect day it looks a lot like that Sunday in July 2007," said Roger Federer about Rafael Nadal in 2019.
