Aleksandra Wozniak plans to open her own tennis academy later this year

Former World No. 21 Aleksandra Wozniak has said that she is planning to open her own tennis academy in the fall, according to The Montreal Gazette.

The Canadian player says, "I’ll be opening my tennis academy this fall and I’m hoping to have 200 students from Canada and there’s even some interest from France. Wozniak retired from the tennis tour in December 2018 and has been working on her coaching credentials and academy since then.

As per the current plan, there will be a three-season program in Bedford in the Montérégie region, but Wozniak is also hoping to add indoor facilities so that players will have access to training around the year.

Since her retirement from the circuit, Wozniak worked for one year in marketing, she went through the Tennis Canada certification for coaching and also coached Jada Bui, a Canadian junior star who is headed to the United States later this year. She has also become a spokesperson for Reboost, a natural maple syrup gel that has gained popularity among athletes seeking a quick energy boost.

Wozniak will run a tennis camp for youngsters and adults in her home town of Blainville, whch would be the same courts where she and her older sister, Dorota, learnt the game from their father. "In December, the city announced that it was naming the courts after me and I felt very honoured. They were supposed to have an official ceremony to rename the courts in May, but it had to be delayed because of the COVID-19.”

Aleksandra Wozniak is a former World No. 21 and one of her biggest wins came in 2008 when she upset Serena Williams in the semifinals of the Bank of the West championships and then defeated Marion Bartoli in the final for her only WTA Tour title. She also reached the final of the Morocco Open and at Amelia Island and won 11 ITF titles. She was named Female Player of the Year by Tennis Canada five times (2004, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2012) and is the fifth-highest ranked Canadian player in the WTA rankinngs. She boasts a 40–12 record in the Fed Cup through April 2016 and her 40 total victories are a Canadian Fed Cup record, as are her 32 wins in singles. She has appeared in 36 ties in the Fed Cup for Canada.
