Boris Becker calls Nick Kyrgios a 'rat,' the Australian hits back

Former world No. 1 Boris Becker wasn't a fan of seeing Nick Kyrgios calling out Alexander Zverev and he has directly told the Australian that he thinks that he is a "rat."

Zverev, who participated at the Adria Tour events in Belgrade and Zadar, pledged he would self isolate for 14 days despite testing negative for the coronavirus following his campaign in Zadar.

But the German broke his promise as videos surfaced of him partying in Monaco over this past weekend.

After seeing the video, Kyrgios reacted on his Instagram Story: "So I wake up and I see more controversial things happening all over the world, but one that stuck out for me was seeing Zverev again man, again, again, how selfish can you be? How selfish can you be?

"I mean, if you have the audacity to put out a f***ing tweet that you made your management write on your behalf saying you are going to self isolate for 14 days and apologising to f***ing general public for putting their health at risk, at least have the audacity to stay inside for 14 days. My god.

"Have your girlfriend with you for f***ing 14 days. Jesus, man. It pisses me off. This tennis world pisses me off. How selfish can you all get?"

Boris Becker defends fellow compatriot Zverev

"Don’t like no rats! Anybody telling off fellow sportsman or woman is no friend of mine! Look yourself in the mirror and think you are better than us," Becker said in a Twitter post and tagged Kyrgios.

It didn't take long for the Australian to respond as he said: "For goodness sake Boris, I’m not competing or trying to throw anyone under the bus. It’s a global pandemic and if someone is as idiotic as Alex to do what he has done, I’ll call him out for it. Simple."

Becker says he understands the situation but still he is a not a fan of "rats."

"We all live in the pandemic called COVID-19. It’s terrible and it (has) killed to many lives... We should protect our families and loved ones and follow the guidelines but still don’t like rats," Becker added.

After being called a rat for the second time, Kyrgios reacted: "Rats? For holding someone accountable? Strange way to think of it champion, I’m just looking out for people. When my family and families all over the world have respectfully done the right thing. And you have a goose waving his arms around, I'm going to say something."

Kyrgios then also added: "Boris Becker is a bigger doughnut than I thought. (He) can hit a volley, (but) obviously (he is) not the sharpest tool in the shed though."

As expected, it didn't end there.

"There is an unspoken understanding between athletes! Whatever happens on the court stays there including the lockers! Nobody will talk about it," Boris Becker added.
