David Goffin: What happened at Adria Tour wasn't good news for tennis world

Belgian tennis star David Goffin says players testing positive for the coronavirus at the Adria Tour wasn't good news but he hopes the lesson will be learned and it will help international events once the season resumes. 

The Adria Tour -- an exhibition event organized by world No. 1 Novak Djokovic -- came to an end prematurely and on an unfortunate way as the event was cancelled after four players tested positive for the coronavirus. 

17-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic, world No. 19 Grigor Dimitrov, Croatian Borna Coric and former world No. 12 Viktor Troicki all participated at the Adria Tour and tested positive for the coronavirus.

"Of course, what happened in the exhibition to Novak Djokovic and the other players on the Adria Tour was not good news. It was not good news for the tennis world, but we will see. We have a month and a half left for the US Open so there is time and we hope everyone recovers. We will have different conditions to make the US Open possible. They have started to do several things because they want it to take place, so we will see. The date is close, but still It is far away, so in a few months we will see what the situation will be there, but I think it can be made possible with fewer fans. I think that on the Adria Tour it was too early to have I don't know how many thousands of people in an exhibition," Goffin told Marca.

David Goffin enjoys competing at the Ultimate Tennis Showdown

The Ultimate Tennis Showdown is taking place at the Mouratoglou Academy and it features a completely different format from the one used at regular events.

Some of the biggest name of the game play at the Ultimate Tennis Showdown and so far everything has gone well.

"It is very nice. We are all 100 percent in this competition, physically and mentally, so it was nice (to return to action) as we hadn't played a tournament in a long time. It is good to play a tournament like that even if it is a different format. It is very good to see all the players participating, having the same stress before going out on the court as we usually have and playing some points. It is a tournament after all. I missed the competition and it is very good to have that kind of competition now," Goffin claimed.

So far, David Goffin has played four matches at the Ultimate Tennis Showdown and claimed two wins and two losses.
