Juan Martin del Potro wants to consult Roger Federer's doctor for his knee injury

Former US Open champion Juan Martin del Potro is reportedly wanting to consult the same doctor that Roger Federer has worked with for his knee operations

As per reports, del Potro has reached out to Federer for helping him connect to Roland Biedert, the doctor who Federer had worked with for his knee issues. Besides being good friends, del Potro is also represented by Team 8, the company founded by Federer and his agent Tony Godsick.

del Potro underwent his most recent operation earlier this year in January and during his current rehab period, he has also consulted Ángel Ruiz Cotorro, the doctor of Rafael Nadal, and Lee Kaplan, a specialist in Miami. At the Queen's Club Championship in 2019, del Potro suffered his latest injury when he fractured his kneecap in his first round match against Denis Shapovalov. He has not played since then. It remains to be seen if del Potro will be able to return to the circuit and how his latest injury heals over time.

Juan Martín del Potro is a former World No. 3 player and is currently ranked No. 122 in the world. He has won one Grand Slam - the 2009 US Open, beating Rafael Nadal in the semifinal and 5-time defending champion Roger Federer in the final. He was the first to defeat both Federer and Nadal during the same major and was the only man outside the Big Four to win a major between the 2005 French Open and the 2013 US Open. Other career highlights include reaching the 2018 US Open final, winning the bronze medal in men's singles at the 2012 London Olympics, the silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics, the Indian Wells Masters in 2018, and being part of his country's successful Davis Cup team. But Juan Martin del Potro has been very unlucky with several knee and wrist injuries throughout his career. He also completed the second-longest winning streak in 2008, and the second longest by a teenager in the Open Era with his winning streak spanning 23 matches over five tournaments, which is just one short of Rafael Nadal. Roger Federer recently announced that he had undergone another procedure on his knee and would be missing the rest of the 2020 season and would come back in 2021.
