Vasek Pospisil: Novak Djokovic's heart was in right place and he had good intentions

Canadian tennis player Vasek Pospisil believes Novak Djokovic had good intentions when he decided to organize the Adria Tour but some of the things were rushed and the price was paid. 

Djokovic, the founder of the Adria Tour, tested positive for the coronavirus, as well as three more players who participated at the event. 

Grigor Dimitrov, Borna Coric and Viktor Troicki all participated at the Adria Tour and later tested positive for the coronavirus. 

Since then, world No. 1 Djokovic has been receiving criticism.

"I think that Novak's heart was in the right place and that his intentions were good, but it must be admitted that organizing tournaments so quickly was a mistake," Pospisil told Radio-Canada Sports. "We have exchanged messages in the past few hours and I feel that he is sincerely sorry for what happened."

Just before the final of the Adria Tour event in Zadar, Dimitrov announced he tested positive for the coronavirus and the organizers called off the final between Djokovic and Andrey Rublev.

The Adria Tour was a charity event and the money raised would be distributed to those who need it most.

"It is a real shame. It was a charity tour and he wanted to bring tennis back to the countries of the former Yugoslavia. It was a great project, but I think he learned the lesson," Pospisil added.

Vasek Pospisil not optimistic on the chances of seeing the US Open 

The New York Governor Andrew Cuomo gave the US Open organizers the green light to proceed with the tournament as initially scheduled from August 31 - September 13. "I think the odds of hosting the US Open are lower today than a week ago, Judge Pospisil. There are still a lot of outstanding questions before the game resumes. What will happen if there is an outbreak during the tournament? How long should players stay isolated? I think a lot of players are really hesitant to participate because of all the uncertainty," Pospisil said.

Pospisil says many players will skip the US Open if they are not forced to play.

"The problem is that if the ranking resumes with the US Open, players will be forced to go because it will greatly affect their ranking if they give up. If the tournament is played without impact on the ranking, I predict that there will be many players who will pass their turn. I think players should have a say in this matter," Vasek Pospisil claimed.
