Andy Murray misses Wimbledon triumph against Novak Djokovic: “I’m gutted”
The All England Club’s ever-adored star, Andy Murray, expressed his regret for not being able to perform on Wimbledon’s grass courts this Monday when the famous Grand Slam should have had its main stars – Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Serena Williams, and many others – getting into action if the coronavirus pandemic wouldn’t have struck the world.
Reminiscing about the good times he had while participating in London’s main tennis event, Murray shared a picture illustrating his victory celebration when he captured the 2016 Wimbledon edition’s trophy over the current world’s number one, Novak Djokovic, in straight sets (6/4, 7/5, 6/4).
“Not many better days on the tennis calendar than opening Monday at Wimbledon. [I’m] gutted it’s not happening this year and will be missing moments like this,” said Andy Murray on Instagram.

There’s nothing set in stone so far with the current pandemic still being a great danger in many European countries and not only, but, given that Andy Murray keeps in shape, his next best chance of featuring at Wimbledon is in 2021. More specifically, officials and people around the world expect the next edition to take place between 28th June and 11th July 2021.
Wimbledon CEO Sally Bolton assured that she will do everything which is in her powers to hold the Championships next year. “Of course, it is our absolute wish that next year’s Championship looks like a Championship that we would all recognise… It’s too early to say at this point what it will look like and how we will respond to the situation and restrictions in place at the time,” Bolton told Tennis Head.
“As was the case in the decision to cancel this year’s Championship, the health and safety of our spectators, players, guests and staff will be absolutely at the forefront of any decisions we make. It’s too early to say yet. But the principles and the way in which we approach this year will be very much front of mind when we look ahead to next year at the appropriate time,” Sally Bolton continued.
Until 2021 arrives and Andy Murray will have his chance to star in front of his British compatriots, everybody hopes that tennis tournaments would be able to kick-off safely as soon as possible.
