Olga Danilovic defended Novak Djokovic's good intentions

Olga Danilovic is one of the most promising players of the WTA Tour: she already won a tournament despite the nineteen years-old, and she was one of the main protagonists of the contested Adria Tour, the charity tournament organized by Novak Djokovic.

The controversy came after the positive cases of Novak Djokovic and his wife Jelena, Goran Ivanisevic and Marco Panichi, respectively coach and athletic trainer of the world no.1, Grigor Dimitrov, Borna Coric, Viktor Troicki and other members of the staff of the players.

The 17-times Slam champion, in particular, has received several criticisms for organizing an event open to the crowd. Danilovic, who attended the event and knows all the dynamics very well, defended Djokovic through a letter then published on her Instagram profile.

Olga Danilovic's letter to Novak Djokovic

"Dear Nole, first of all I wish you, your family, your team members, Grigor and Borna, and all those who are fighting their battle against Covid-19, a speedy recovery," wrote Danilovic. The goal of this event was to raise funds for a humanitarian purpose. In the end, things didn't go as we wanted, but I know we all tried to follow the directions and rules that were imposed on us.

It has already been said, but I want to repeat it: each spectator received a mask at the entrance with all the instructions to follow. That's why it's bad to blame and lay all the responsibilities on one person. Everyone had the opportunity to wear masks or simply not to come to the tournament. That's why we are all responsible, just as the whole world is responsible for the spread of this pandemic.

I myself was able to observe how you dedicated a smile and words of encouragement to each child present. You showed respect for all the people who approached you. We gave Grigor a warm welcome to Belgrade and he responded with his closeness. Borna was an excellent host in Zadar for all of us, just like the Croatian tennis federation and the rest of the players. I want to thank everyone for this. All participants and members of the organization recognized the extent and good intentions of your idea.

Through what we do best in life, or play tennis, we can help all those who need it. We, as professional athletes, know well the opponents who are on the other side of the net, we study them to know their tactics. Instead, this evil opponent has stopped life around the world and has meant that many more people need help. So I want to tell you that your invitation was an honor for me, you always believed that together we could help people in danger.

After all this, some things will never be the same again. First, believe me, your list of true friends. I hope that soon I will have the opportunity to share the field with you again, the best player in the world. I wish you a speedy recovery, your friend Olga."
