Smith, Keothavong, Rusedski e Judy Murray named as team captains for Brit team event

Great Britain's Davis and Fed Cup captains Leon Smith and Anne Keothavong have been named, along with Greg Rusedski and Judy Murray, as the team captains for the St James's Place Battle of the Brits Team Tennis competition which takes place next week, according to the LTA website.

The St. James's Place Battle of the Brits Team Tennis competition will see Britain's top men's and women's players being placed into one of two teams in the event which is being organized by Jamie Murray.  

Jamie Murray had earlier said, "We are in the process of setting up the Battle of the Brits Team Tennis, which will be a mixed team event to take place at the National Tennis Centre from July 27 to August 2. The concept is that there will be two teams of 10-12 players each, a mix of men and women. There will be matches each day, singles, doubles, mixed doubles. It will be Ryder Cup-style. We think it's a cool idea to get all the best British players together, competing in one event. We will continue to raise funds for charity during the week of competition”.

Speaking to the LTA website, Anne Keothavong is a former British No.1 and is the current British Fed Cup captain and says, "I'm absolutely delighted to be named one of the team captains for the upcoming Battle of the Brits Team Tennis event. It's going to be an incredible opportunity for the younger players to compete in an event like this with our top players and hopefully fans will be able to get to know the players a bit better, as they'll be the faces of British tennis for years to come."

Judy Murray, a former Fed Cup captain, said she hopes she does not have her son Andy Murray on her team. "I can guarantee I'll have the best team on my bench - I hope I don't have Andy because he doesn't listen to me."

Leon Smith has been the captain of the British Davis Cup team for 10 years and led the British team to the 2015 Davis Cup win while Rusedski is a former world No.4 and British No.1.
