Konta on new coach Hogstedt: I'm giving it every opportunity for it to work out well

Former World No. 4 Johanna Konta says her new coaching partnership with Thomas Hogstedt is still very much in the early days and wants to make sure the partnership works for both of them.

The 56 year old Högstedt, a former Top 40 player himself on the pro tour,  is one of the top coaches on the WTA Tour and has worked with the likes of Eugenie Bouchard, Caroline Wozniacki, Maria Sharapova, Li Na, Simona Halep and Madison Keys in the past.

The pair have been working together for just under a month now.

According to Sky Sports, Konta says, "Well it's still very early days. I mean, this is the third week I have spent with him so in terms of what he's bringing to the table, I think it's still very much a work in progress."

"We're still trying to figure out on how we work together and I'm listening intently to him on his views on things on court for me and just in general, so I'm enjoying that process of just getting to know each other for now."

"I have a lot of respect for him. He's had a lot of success with a lot of players and obviously that's going to be for a reason. Obviously certain people match up well but I think I'm giving it every opportunity for it to work out well. I don't see why it can't but also I'm leaving space for both of us to be ourselves and to make sure it works for both of us."

Konta lost her first match since the tour resumed at the WTA event in Lexington earlier this month but is faring much better this week at the Western & Southern Open in New York. She is through to the quarter-finals after two good wins over Belgian Kirsten Flipkens and former World No. 2 Vera Zvonareva. She will now meet the No. 13 seed Maria Sakkari in the quarter-finals.

The 29 year old Johanna Konta has been to the semi-finals of the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon in the past. She will be hoping to do the same at the upcoming US Open in New York, where her best performance was a quarter-final finish in 2019.
