Roger Federer leads Forbes list of Top 10 tennis players for the 15th straight year

Forbes magazine has released its list of Top 10 earning tennis players for the period between June 2019 and June 2020. The top ten players earned a combined $340 million, up from $312 million last year.

The magazine had earlier already released its list of highest earning male and female athletes for the same period - with Swiss superstar Roger Federer and Japanese sensation Naomi Osaka topping those respective lists.

With the Swiss legend being named the highest earning athlete across all sports, it comes as no surprise that Federer is the world’s highest-earning tennis player for the 15th straight year - with earnings of $106.3 million.

Serbia's Novak Djokovic is No. 2 on the list, with earnings of $44.6 million followed by Spain's Rafael Nadal at No. 3 on the list, with earnings of $40 million.

Osaka, a two-time Grand Slam winner, is the highest earning female on the list - with earnings of $37.4 million at No. 4, followed by 23 time Grand Slam winner Serena Williams at No. 5 with earnings of $36 million.

Japan's Kei Nishikori, who will has been out of the circuit for nearly a year now due to injury and will also miss the upcoming US Open, comes in at No. 6 on the list, with earnings of $32.1 million. Nishikori is one of the most popular athletes in Japan and with the upcoming Olympic Games, he is a big draw for companies in that market.

The current women's World No. 1 Ash Barty, of Australia, is No. 7 with earnings of $13.1 million. Barty won the first Grand Slam title of her career at the French Open last year but will also not play the upcoming US Open.

Russian Daniil Medvedev, who reached his first Grand Slam final at the US Open last year, is at No. 8 with earnings of $11.8 million. 

Austria's Dominic Thiem, who has reached three Grand Slam finals including this year's Australian Open final in January, is at No. 9 with earnings of $11.1 million.

The Top 10 is rounded off by two-time Grand Slam winner and current World No. 2 Simona Halep, of Romania, who has earnings of $10.9 million. Halep is another absentee at the 2020 US Open.

Roger Federer is skipping the US Open this year due to a knee injury and has said he expects to be back on the tour in 2021.
