Felix Auger-Aliassime looking forward to Dominic Thiem US Open challenge

World No. 21 Felix Auger-Aliassime entered his US Open third round match fully focused as he was determined the outcome that happened at last year's Wimbledon. 

After beating Moutet in the Wimbledon second round, Auger-Aliassime disappointingly lost in three sets to Ugo Humbert in his following match.

This time, Auger-Aliassime entered his Grand Slam third round fully focused and ended up beating Moutet 6-1 6-0 6-4.

"Yeah, I think that's the things you learn as a young player, not get ahead of yourself. Also learning to play when the expectations are obviously on you," Auger-Aliassime said.

"Today was a good example that obviously yourself and people are expecting you or there's expectations on your level, how you're going to play, and winning. You don't really always have control on that consequences, winning or losing.

"I think last year, I got a bit ahead of myself against a player in a match like this, a similar situation, didn't play my best tennis.

"This time around I think I was able to keep going, keep doing what I was doing well, yeah, just keep my focus and discipline going, not get too ahead of myself even when things got maybe a little bit tighter in the third set. I didn't get too excited, too nervous. I was able to conclude in a good way, so it's a good sign of improvement."

Auger-Aliassime looking forward to playing Dominic Thiem 

After taking a comfortable two-set lead, Auger-Aliassime didn't want to give Moutet any hope.

"I was looking at it like, Okay, even if he's playing better, I knew his back is against the wall, he now has nothing to lose. He's going to try everything," Auger-Aliassime claimed.

"He took a medical timeout, a bathroom break, trying to use everything to his advantage, which is normal. I was just trying to accept that, stay calm, accept that it's going to be a battle till the end, and I'm going to deserve that ticket through to the next round.

"The composure I had today was good. I'm happy with how I dealt with the whole situation basically."

Auger-Aliassime plays next No. 2 seed Dominic Thiem, who beat Marin Cilic to advance to the US Open round-of-16.

"Obviously Dominic has been getting stronger and stronger year after year. You feel like step by step he's been reaching later stages of these tournaments, really becoming like a power in the tennis world," Auger-Aliassime said.

"For me, it would be a good matchup, interesting matchup for now, obviously to test myself against the best in the world, against the second seed of this tournament."
