'I’m trying my best to reach Roger Federer, Nadal, Djokovic', says former No. 1

Winning a match against Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal or Novak Djokovic is one of those things that can positively affect a career. Yet there are a lot of players, top-10, winners of important tournaments, who have never succeeded in the enterprise. In the face of these, however, there are some that more than others have managed to keep up with the Big Three. In this article we present the three players who in the last fifteen years (even more) have won the most head-to-head matches against Federer, Nadal and Djokovic. The player who most managed to compete at the same level as the big three was certainly Andy Murray, so much so that for a significant period there was talk of the Big Four, instead of the Big Three. The most important successes for the Scotsman were certainly the two triumphs at Wimbledon and the victory at the Australian Open. From the moment the hip problems became unbearable, a decline began that Andy is fighting with all his heart. Andy Murray admits adding to his three Grand Slam titles will be a tough ask but insists he will continue to “shoot for the stars” for the rest of his career.
Andy Murray on his future“Even after that I would say I’m more positive about what I could do in grand slams than I was before I came over here. To come over here and play a couple of tough matches in Cincinnati, and I played certainly one very tough match here, and my right hip felt good. That’s really, really positive. There are other things that need to get better, but I would say that I’m more positive now than what I was a couple of months ago, that’s for sure. In terms of winning grand slams again, that’s going to be extremely difficult to do. It was hard enough when I had two normal hips" - Andy Murray explained. “So it will be difficult, but I’ll keep trying. Why not? Why shouldn’t I try my hardest to do that? And if I don’t, that’s all right. But I might as well shoot for the stars. And if I don’t get there, then that’s all right. But I’m trying my best to get the most out of what my body gives me now" - he added. Roger Federer has 20 grand slam singles titles, Rafael Nadal has 19 and Novak Djokovic landed his 17th at the Australian Open at the start of this season. The campaign is now on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic. Whenever tennis resumes, there will be a host of young players vying with the old guard for the biggest titles in the sport.
