Mom Judy will be cheering for sons Jamie e Andy Murray on television this year

Like many in the tennis world, the 2020 US Open is going to be very different for Judy Murray. The former British Fed Cup captain will not be watching her sons compete at the Grand Slam event in New York - instead she will be watching them on television and cheering them on from home.

According to Yahoo Sports, Judy Murray says, "I usually go to the US Open. I love New York and we have been going since 2003 when the boys played in a junior event there. The grand slams are the biggest prize in tennis and they are the events where the players need their emotional support. It is two weeks of a tournament and you are usually there a week before, most of the players have their families with them so this time it is going to be very different for everybody because of the restrictions. It is going to be strange all round.”

She adds that she will cheer for her sons on television this year but will be muting the TV set as she does not like to listen to the commentators criticise their games.

Mother Judy says Andy Murray can do some damage at the US Open this year

Like everybody else, Judy Murray has also been impressed by son Andy's performance during the Western & Southern Open last week and feels that if he remains fit, he would be able to do some damage in the draw. “Seeing how well he was moving, because his game is built around his impressive court coverage and never-say-die attitude, how physically well he was moving and also how smart he was, there was a lot to be excited about."

The 33 year old played his first official match on the tour this season at the Western & Southern Open - he scored wins over two quality opponents - American Frances Tiafoe, ranked No. 82 in the world, and German Alexander Zverev, ranked No. 7 in the world - before going down to Canada's Milos Raonic in the round of 16. Raonic went on to lose in the final on Saturday to World No. 1 Novak Djokovic.

Andy Murray will play his first match against Yoshihito Nishioka at the US Open on Tuesday while Jamie Murray, who reached the final at the Western & Southern Open doubles event with Neal Skupski, will play Filip Polasek/ Ivan Dodig in his first round doubles match.
