ATP Paris: Felix Auger-Aliassime e Hubert Hurkacz stun No. 2 seeds for title

Rising stars Felix Auger-Aliassime and Hubert Hurkacz stunned No. 2 seeds Mate Pavic and Bruno Soares in the Paris Masters final to lift their maiden team title at Bercy.

Auger-Aliassime and Hurkacz, who were playing together only for the second time this week, saved a total of five matches en route to edging out Pavic and Soares 6-7 (3) 7-6 (7) 10-2.

Pavic and Soares failed to convert any of their three consecutive break points in the seventh game of the first set but they easily won the tie-break to win a tight opener.

Pavic and Soares had multiple chances to seal a straight-set win but Auger-Aliassime and Hurkacz saved a championship point in the 12th game of the second set -- four more championship points in the tie-break -- before converting their first set point to force a decider.

Pavic and Soares never recovered from blowing their second set chances as Auger-Aliassime and Hurkacz dominated the match tie-break to claim the Paris Masters doubles title.

"It is huge [to win this title]. Felix played unbelievable,” Hurkacz said in an on-court interview, as quoted on the ATP website. “Bruno and Mate are great doubles players and they played unreal. We had no chances throughout the sets. We kept ourselves in the tie-breaks and we are so happy to win.”

Auger-Aliassime and Hurkacz didn't expect to win Paris 

After claiming a straight-set win in their opener at the tournament, Auger-Aliassime and Hurkacz collected four consecutive wins in three sets to win the Paris Masters.

"We didn’t expect before this week that we were going to play on Sunday,” Hurkacz admitted. “[I am] a bit surprised, but happy to finish the season like this.”

Auger-Alliasime and Hurkacz debuted as a team earlier this year in Rotterdam, where they won their opener before losing in the quarterfinal.

"I enjoy my time with him and I have to say Hubert is a really nice person and he has a really good heart,” Auger-Aliassime said in an on-court interview. “He gives everything out there, he has fun and he is always smiling. It is a joy to play with him and be around him. We have known each other since we were juniors a little bit… This was so unexpected. We started with a great match and just kept playing better and better… Everything went on our side this week.”
