ATP players who improved their ranking in 2020!

Who are the players who have improved their rankings the most in 2020? Can we talk about a qualitative leap or is it just a coincidence, due to the exceptional nature of the season that has just ended?

Jannik Sinner finished the year in 37th position. It is probably the big revelation of the 2020 season. The Italian is the near future of ATP tennis, and perhaps the one who achieved the most important ranking improvement in this particular season, winning the title in Sofia. Everyone expects great things from Sinner, perhaps destined to become the next world no.1 in ATP tennis.

Vasek Pospisil finished the year in 61st position. Although he is still a long way from his 25th place in 2014, the Canadian's improvement is evident. With 16 wins from 26 games, Pospisil played in the final in Sofia and Montpellier, as well as a fourth round at the US Open. Pedro Martínez Porteiro finished in 85th place. At 23, the Spaniard experienced tremendous growth throughout 2020. He is still playing in Challenger tournaments but has been able to make it through qualifiers and play major tournaments such as the Australian Open, Rio de Janeiro, Rome and Roland Garros.

ATP players who improved their ranking in 2020

Yannick Hanfmann in 98th position. The German found the best moment of his career at 29, especially for the final obtained in the Kitzbuhel tournament. Attila Balazs is at 92nd. position. It is curious that in recent times many tennis players find the best moment of their career in maturity. Some are even in their thirties, like the Hungarian, who in the first quarter of the year became the 76th in the world after winning the title at the Bangkok Challenger and reaching the semi-final in Rio de Janeiro.

Jiri Vesely finished in 68th position. The Czech tennis player was one of the most promising young players. Five years ago, in fact, he reached the 35th place, but suffered a collapse, both personal and game, and then he did not show his level anymore. This year Vesely has won 12 games out of 18 played and holds the title of Pune as his best result.

Emil Ruusuvuori at position 86. The 21-year-old Finn was another youngster who has made progress over the past 12 months. He still alternates ATP with challengers, but thanks to his tennis, it's a matter of time before he makes the definitive leap into the Tour. Tommy Paul to position 54. The American tennis player has gradually risen in the rankings and has been more and more assiduous in big tournaments.

Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina finished in 52nd position. The Malaga tennis player found in 2020 the year of his explosion within the Tour. Federico Coria at position 91. His good work in clay-court tournaments led Coria to reach his best ever ranking at 28. The quarter-finals in Rio de Janeiro and the third round at Roland Garros allow him to enter the Top 100 and hope to further improve these results in 2021.
