Guy Forget: If needed, we won't hesitate to reschedule French Open again in 2021

French Open tournament director Guy Forget has said that the tournament organizers won't hesitate to reschedule next year's event again if needed. 

On March 12, the ATP initially suspended the season for six weeks before eventually prolonging the suspension until late-August. 

The French Open, which traditionally takes place in late-May and early-June, was rescheduled for a late-September start and the tournament organizers successfully staged the event. 

The coronavirus pandemic remains a huge worldwide problem and French Open tournament director Forget says they will closely monitor the situation and be ready to adapt if needed.

"So let's say if tomorrow, which would be next year, we are facing the same issues, we would probably try to do the same exercise probably," Forget said, per Sky Sports.

"I know we have been criticised when we moved the dates of Roland Garros. We did it in a very quick way. We got some people upset. Some players were really surprised. We did it on our own."

Forget said rescheduling the French Open was the right move 

"The positive thing is now those same people, and especially players, told us that it was the right thing to do. So it worked," Forget added.

"Now we know they have been very supportive, and if that would happen again next year, we will probably in an earlier stage try to imagine to again move Roland Garros a bit later in the season."

The conditions were tricky and challenging at this year's French Open since it started so late in the season. 

Rafael Nadal, the greatest clay court player ever, admitted it wouldn't be easy for him at Roland Garros this year but he still managed to win a record 13th French Open title and equal Roger Federer's all-time Grand Slam record of 20 Major titles.

"I have always had the utmost respect for my friend Rafa as a person and as a champion. As my greatest rival over many years, I believe we have pushed each other to become better players,” Federer wrote on Twitter. “Therefore, it is a true honour for me to congratulate him on his 20th Grand Slam victory. It is especially amazing that he has now won Roland Garros an incredible 13 times, which is one of the greatest achievements in sport. I also congratulate his team, because nobody can do this alone. I hope 20 is just another step on the continuing journey for both of us. Well done, Rafa. You deserve it.”
