Novak Djokovic: 'Often my words get twisted'

Novak Djokovic has been at the center of controversy for months, for several reasons. In June, due to the Adria Tour, an itenerent tournament with the crowd between Serbia and Croatia, without social distancing and without any safety regulations, the Serb, his wife, his coach Goran Ivanisevic and other tennis players became infected due to the COVID-19.

Then came the truly horrifying statements from his parents, especially his father, against Roger Federer. Finally, the disqualification from the US Open, after having inadvertently thrown a ball at a line judge

Nole spoke out against the media for spreading false rumors, or rather, for distorting some of her words during interviews. He lashed out at the media reporting false rumors about him and decided to return to the ATP Council. He said his words are often distorted by the media and used to their advantage.

Novak Djokovic's words

He said: "Very often my words get twisted, just like in the last couple of days. Some people said it's hypocritical of me to maybe go back to the Council as well as being one of the founders of PTPA. It wasn't my intention to go back to the Council. In August the players asked Pospisil and me to step down.

I said it then and I say it now, I don't see a conflict there. I tried to explain it to people, but there are some groups who don't want to understand. We accepted membership. at the ATP with pleasure, it is an honor for us, and it says something that we have been nominated again after being basically kicked out before. It means that we have done a good job and that many players trust us.

Until last night I wanted to collaborate with ATP as one of the co-founders of the PTPA, but by promoting the new rule according to which one cannot simultaneously be a member of the Council and any other organization within the tennis system, they sent a clear message what they think of all this. So again, the ATP went against the wishes of the large group of players who named Vasek Pospisil and me. We are not the ones who applied, as has been reported in the media."

Novak Djokovic, co-founder of the Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA) along with Vasek Pospisil caused a lot of controversy when they announced their decision to return to the ATP Council.

However, ATP announced new membership rules, which prohibited any player from being a member of any organization other than the ATP. Novak Djokovic was critical of the players and the association for forcing them to leave the ATP player council in August when he and Pospisil announced the formation of the PTPA.
