2020 memories: Iga Swiatek won the Roland Garros

In one of the most incredible, particular and dramatic seasons ever, the great tennis stars like Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams still managed to shine, for one reason or another.

At the Roland Garros, Iga Swiatek got her best career performance in the WTA Tour. Young Pole defeated 2019 finalist Marketa Vondrousova, Hsieh Su-wei, Eugenie Bouchard and the No. 1 seed and big favorite on the eve of the tournament Simona Halep with a clear 6-1 6-2. In the quarter-finals and in the semi-finals she beat Martina Trevisan and Nadia Podoroska, accessing a Grand Slam final for the first time in her career.

She is the first Polish player in the Open era to go so far in the Paris tournament and the second ever after Jadwiga Jedrzejowska, finalist in 1939. In the final she faced Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin. Swiatek won 6-4 6-1 winning the tournament without losing a single set and having conceded a total of just twenty-eight games. This is the first ever Grand Slam success in the history of Polish tennis and the first career title for Iga, achieved with exciting performances.
