'If Roger Federer doesn’t have a physical issue...', says former No. 1
As is now known, Roger Federer has decided to miss the Australian Open for the first time in the last 23 editions (also considering his participation in the junior tournament). The Swiss phenomenon has not yet fully recovered from the double operation on his right knee, but he should be back on the pitch in one of the fast track tournaments after the Happy Slam - at least according to the latest rumors. The last official appearance of the former world number 1 dates back to the semi-final played in Melbourne against Novak Djokovic last year, before traveling to South Africa for the historic performance with his friend and rival Rafael Nadal. Despite the long absence from the fields, the 39-year-old from Basel nevertheless maintained a place in the Top 5 thanks to the new ranking system. King Roger has already targeted Wimbledon and the Tokyo Olympics, which could also represent the latest efforts in his incredible career. During an interview with 'Nemzeti Sport', Mats Wilander explained that Federer will surely have one last cartridge to shoot at the Championships.
Wilander on Roger Federer's future"In Australia and Wimbledon, he would still have a chance to win," Mats Wilander responded when asked to assess Roger Federer's chances of winning another Slam. "He didn’t enter Melbourne this year. But if he doesn’t have a physical issue, he can rightly hope for the trophy at Wimbledon, where he can win at any time. Roland Garros and the US Open are a tougher affair, but Federer has targeted Wimbledon and the Olympics this year anyway," the Swede added. Roger Federer has many business ventures. Over the years, as his stature in the game increased, he expanded himself to become a businessman as well. He has a management firm, TEAM8 which has grown over the years and now manages some of the top players. TEAM8 is listed as a sports and entertainment company. It was started back in 2013 by Roger Federer and his agent Tony Godsick. They were also accompanied by two more American investors. The company aims to manage athletes and invest strategically in the sports world. Tony Godsick serves as the CEO of the firm and the company has its headquarters in Ohio, USA. “TEAM8 intends to be at the forefront in managing top athletes, and acquiring, investing in and strategically partnering with organizations and brands in the sports, media, technology and event spaces.” TEAM8 on their Linkedin page.
