Nick Kyrgios 'not disappointed' after losing to Borna Coric
Australian world No. 47 Nick Kyrgios didn't appear to be too much disappointed after losing in the Murray River Open third round as he simply didn't expect too much in his first Tour-level event in 11 months.
Kyrguis, who played his last tournament of the 2020 season in Acapulco in February, returned to competitive action at this week's Murray River Open in Melbourne.
Kyrgios, a former world No. 13, was stopped by Borna Coric on Friday as the Croatian claimed a straight set 6-3 6-4 win over the Australian.
“I’m relatively happy where my game’s at. Obviously I wasn’t expecting much this week. Just to be back out there was a positive,” K
“I’m not disappointed at all. I played three matches this week, which is exactly what I needed. Now I’ve got a couple days, three or four or five days to just relax a little bit, fine-tune a couple things, then see how it goes in the Aus Open.”
Kyrgios struggled with a knee injuryThe Australian couldn't overcome a knee injury against Coric and the Croatian ended up winning in straight sets.
Coric claimed the first break of the match in the sixth game and then held on to his serve the rest of the set to win the opener.
Kyrgios then held on to his serve until the ninth game of the second set, when Coric claimed the key break before serving out for the match a game later.
“It’s pretty sore. I was kind of expecting that. I haven’t played in a year,” he said of his left knee. “I was expecting my body to not feel great, to be honest. I’m not at all scared or anything that I won’t play or anything like that. I’m just going to maintain my body now.”
Kyrgios made the Australian Open round-of-16 last year, before losing to Rafael Nadal.
