Grigor Dimitrov reacts to disappointing first round exit at French Open

Bulgarian tennis star Grigor Dimitrov admitted he was disappointed after ending is French Open campaign in the first round.

Dimitrov, a former world No. 3, was forced to retire his first round clash to American Marcos Giron. 

Dimitrov was leading by two sets to one but a break down in the fourth set when he retired. 

Dimitrov was up 6-2 6-4 5-1 and had 40-0 on Giron's serve but failed to capitalize. 

Giron recovered to win the third set 7-5 and led 3-0 in the fourth set, before Dimitrov retired. 

"I don't know what to say. Disappointed. But it's sport, it happens. I still don't know exactly what the problem is, but we'll find out in few days. Then it'll get clear whether I'll be ready for grass. I feel very bad, and the pain doesn't allow me to show what I can," Dimitrov said after the match. 

Dimitrov's exit not the main upset of the day 

Back-to-back French Open runner-up Dominic Thiem also finished his campaign at Roland Garros on Sunday. 

Thiem, seeded at No. 4, was up by two sets in his first round clash before Spaniard Pablo Andujar recovered to win 4-6 7-5 6-3 6-4 6-4.

“I was not struggling at all with my motivation, but the game was just not there today,” Thiem said. “Like all the shots are missing power. They are not accurate enough. I’m moving not well enough, so everything in my game there are some percents missing…. It’s just not good enough at the moment. And, yeah, it’s very tough situation.

“It’s amazing to reach such a big goal (of a Grand Slam title), but at the same time something is different after. As I said before the tournament, it’s a big learning process. Despite the loss — which hurts so much — I still hope I can bounce back stronger than before. 

“But right now I don’t know when the moment is coming.”
