Wimbledon 2021: Roger Federer got the 2nd round after Mannarino's withdrawal

Roger Federer passes the first round cut on the Church Road lawns for the eighteenth time in his career, but he probably doesn't give himself the answers he needed, taking advantage of Adrian Mannarino's retirement after four sets of pain at Wimbledon 2021.

After a discreet first set, enhanced above all by a very good percentage of points with the first serve, Federer finds himself without room for error in the heart of the fourth set. Mannarino, due to a distortion he gets in the seventh game, clumsily tries to stay attached to the match until the early stages of the fifth.

Nothing more. After just under three hours of play the luminous scoreboard settles on 6-4 6-7 (4) 3-6 6-2. Federer, short of valid solutions from the baseline and also struggling with the service during the first weekly outing, will see it in the second round with Richard Gasquet: in conditions of absolute normality the French should not be a problem. Presumably not even for this Federer.
