Alex Bolt, 28, 'proud' after clinching first Wimbledon win

Australian tennis player Alex Bolt was super thrilled after winning his first Wimbledon main draw match.

Bolt, ranked at No. 149 in the world, saw off 2017 Paris Masters runner-up Filip Krajinovic in three sets 7-6 (5) 6-4 7-5 to reach the Wimbledon second round.

Bolt tried to make the Wimbledon main draw for the first time in his career in 2014.

Back then, the Australian made the qualifying final round before losing to Konstantin Kravchuk.

In 2018, Bolt won three qualifying matches to make his Wimbledon main draw debut.

Unfortunately for Bolt, his campaign in the Wimbledon main draw was short-lived as he lost to Kyle Edmund in the first round.

In 2019, Bolt lost in the Wimbledon qualifying second round to Dennis Novak.

“This is definitely right up there in terms of wins,” Bolt told The First Serve after booking his spot in the second round on Tuesday night.

“Wimbledon is right up there with the pinnacle of the sport. Playing on the grass courts of Wimbledon is something you always dream about.

“To finally be able to do this, ten years into my career, I’ve finally done that and I’m really proud of what I’ve done today. Hopefully I can keep the run going.”

Prior to Wimbledon, Bolt won the Nottingham 2 Challenger as a qualifier.

“Leading into that Nottingham tournament, I think I was on a nine-match losing streak. In terms of wins, there wasn’t that much coming in so I was pretty low on confidence. There is nothing like winning matches,” he said.

“To qualify and win at Nottingham was a great achievement for me. Then I got rewarded with a wildcard here at Wimby. I felt like I’ve taken advantage of the opportunity and I’ve continued my great form here.”

Bolt plays next against the winner of the match between Cameron Norrie and Lucas Pouille.
