Alexander Zverev explains plan to become world No. 1
Alexander Zverev would love to become world No. 1 in the future. The German player was asked by Channel9 if topping the rankings is one of his goals. The German, who achieved a career-high ranking at No. 3 so far, said: 'I wouldn't be honest if I said this is not what I want. I feel like that if I do all the right things, which I think I am doing, this is gonna come to me. I feel like I can be (No. 1).'
Zverev also recalled the private conversation he had with Roger Federer in the locker room following his Australian Open five-set third round loss to Hyeon Chung last year: 'He was very encouraging. He made examples of him in his early career about Grand Slam results, and people were saying, Oh, this young kid will never make it. And he was also winning Masters Series and big events and he had never made past the quarter-finals until he won Wimbledon basically. He told me not to get worried because it's gonna be fine in a few years' time.'
Zverev commented on how he deals with losses being helped by a legend of the game like Ivan Lendl: "He knows that emotions need to first get together, that you have to get refreshed, but in the meantime, I am better in handling the losses that are part of your life on Tour.'
