Nick Kyrgios: I don't know if spotlight is off me at Brisbane International
Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios has suggested that he is in the spotlight this week at the Brisbane International but is happy to see fellow compatriots Alex de Minaur and John Millman doing well on the ATP Tour.
World No. 35 made a good start to his Brisbane campaign as he edged out American Ryan Harrison 7-6 (5) 5-7 7-6 (5) to set up a second round meeting against French Jeremy Chardy.
All the eyes were on Kyrgios at the Brisbane International a year ago -- who didn't disappoint as he made it all the way at the tournament.
But now the Australians have more to be excited about as rising star de Minaur has proved to be one of the most talented and promising players on the tour, while Millman -- who stunned Roger Federer at the US Open -- is playing the best tennis of his life.
Both Millman and de Minaur have also progressed to the Brisbane round-of-16.
Kyrgios made the headlines prior to Brisbane as he spent a couple of days in the hospital after getting bitten by a spider.
"I mean, I don't know if the spotlight is off of me. I was practicing the other day, I had 13 cameras on my court; had a spider bite, that seemed to be the biggest story over the Aussie summer," Kyrgios said after beating Harrison, per The Sydney Morning Herald.
"So let's don't act as if attention is not on me. But, yeah, obviously it does help having guys like that winning matches. I don't know if the spotlight has shifted at all."
