'Rafael Nadal is my reference point' - Young star
Italian player Gian Marco Moroni commented on his decision to start training in Spain. Moroni explained that he sets Rafael Nadal as a great example. 'Spain is like France and United States: they always manage to produce good players', said Moroni. 'That was already a good incentive. Nadal is my reference point, I try to be similar to him as most as possible, but his example can be followed everywhere: in Rome or Madrid. The improvement starts from inside, not from the place you are in. It helps you to stay in contact with people who have already reached good results.'
About the differences between Italy and Spain in terms of tennis training, Moroni added: 'The difference is mostly about the mentality. In Italy, we depend a lot on the result, while they think about making you do the right things. For Spaniards, you need to head into the court and do what you had prepared, at 300%. If you win it's better, but the result gets put in the second place.'
Moroni left the Piatti Tennis Center where he had the chance to train with Borna Coric. But in Spain, he feels well too: 'I train with high-level players, great professionals. Sometimes I share the court with Javier Marti, Daniel Munoz de la Nava, top 500 players. The top 50 players may miss, but they are real tennis players. At the Piatti Center, there was Coric, I was seeing him closely and I could learn a lot, but even now it happens I see champions like Fernando Verdasco and Feliciano Lopez and I can learn a lot from them because they are very experienced.'
