Only four top ten players committed to the Qatar Total Open that will take place from 11 to 16 February 2019. They are Simona Halep, Angelique Kerber, Naomi Osaka and Karolina Pliskova. The Romanian player won the 2014 title defeating Kerber in the final, while in 2018 Halep withdrew from her semifinals match against Garbine Muguruza. Another Spaniard, Carla Suarez Navarro, will seek her second title after triumphing over Jelena Ostapenko in 2016. Over the last two years the tournament was won by Czech players: in 2017 Karolina Pliskova, in 2018 Petra Kvitova. Differently than her compatriot, Kvitova will not play in Doha. She will probably commit to Dubai where last year she withdrew due to a tiredness.
Caroline Wozniacki didn't commit, after being diagnosed the rheumatoid arthritis the Dane is clearly set to play less tournaments in 2018. She reached the 2017 final in Doha. Serena and Venus Williams, and Maria Sharapova will not play either. The world No. 30 Aliaksandra Sasnovich is the last to make it in the main draw entry list.
