Shiffrin: 'I am far away from being at the same Roger Federer's level'
In an interview to Bluewin, the American skier Mikaela Shiffrin commented on Roger Federer's activity in charity. Shiffrin praised Federer both as a sportsman and as a man overall. The Swiss player's Foundation has reached the one million children unit in December 2018 and they aim to achieve many more goals in the future. "His Foundation must really have a lot of success", said Shiffrin. "His status, which developed in the game and in the world, helps him a lot. I am far away from being at his same level, by far. My name is not as big as his. I met Roger this year in Italy and in Chicago. He has interesting and motivating ideas that go beyond the sports success. After that, I also thought about what should be more important for me than the only races win. But I am just 23 years old and I actually prefer to find the way to have success in races."
Asked if she plans to run a Foundation by her own, Shiffrin replied: "Not yet. I see other athletes around me doing it. There are a lot of surprising and important topics that require attention. But I do not know what topic I should pick. I am pretty young. My full goal is still on ski. I need all my energies to improve on this aspect. It may come after my career. I would also have enough time to be busy about it how I would want. The idea of helping children, among other things, in the sports development, I find it interesting."
