Andrey Rublev: 'I had nothing to lose against Roger Federer'
Andrey Rublev was asked about his win over Roger Federer in Cincinnati. The Russian player said: "I do not like to speak about it too much. I had nothing to lose. I wanted to show the best I am capable off and fight on every ball. In the end, everything went very well. Everything was on my side. Only in the middle of the second set there were some doubts. I started shaking. Then I tried not to watch nor my team and Federer either. Thinking that the score was totally different, not that I was up but that I was down and playing point by point. That may have been the first match where I managed to keep a certain level from the beginning to the end."
On Marat Safin, Rublev added: "He was and still is my childhood idol. He is so special, just look at him."
On how he reacts to win and losses: "When I lose, I am like, I go drinking some Coca-Cola. And when I win, I try to go to the restaurant and be in a good mood."
On dealing with injuries, Borna Coric said: "This summer was not easy because of injuries. After the Halle tournament, I needed to have a three or four-week break. It's always very difficult to come back after an injury, because sometimes the body reacts so that another injury appears just after another. After the US Open I had a ten-day break because there was an injury again. I am fit again and I feel very well. Today the leg was hurting a little bit during the match, but I do not think it's serious. It will not influence my next matches." He finally spoke about his short term future: "I do not set goals in terms of rankings because I recently trained less. I only wanted to play and stay healthy. In terms of training, there is a lot to work on, but I do not exactly know what. I have a lot to improve."
