Jamie Murray happy to play alongside John-Patrick Smith at Murray Trophy

British doubles specialist Jamie Murray is happy to share the same side of the court with Australian John-Patrick Smith at the inaugural edition of Murray Trophy.

Murray, one of the organizers of the Murray Trophy, and his partner Smith made a promising start to their doubles campaign at the Glasgow Challenger as they saw off British wildcard duo Marshall Tutu and David Wright 6-4 6-2.

Murray, 33, and 33-year-old Smith are playing together for the first time but they are still the No. 1 seeds and top favorites to make it all the way this week.

"The first match was a lot of fun. He (Smith) is a good guy and I’ve known him for a long time. He is fun to be on the court with," Murray said, per the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA).

“He told me he was coming to play in Glasgow when we were in New York and I said I don’t have a partner so if you want to play let’s do it. He seemed pretty fired up so it’s great that we’re doing it."

Murray and Smith will play next against either Turkey's Altug Celikbilek and Cem Ilkel or Finland's Haari Heliovaara and Emil Ruusuvuori.
