Rafael Nadal and Ferrer are ultimate players of Spain, says Garcia Lopez

In an interview with Punto de Break, Spanish player Guillermo Garcia Lopez commented on the challenges of finding some room in his country that has been featuring amazing plays for decades. "I (played) in an era where David Ferrer and Rafa Nadal were the ultimate players of this generation, one was the world No. 1 and the other was four, five, always there, so it was very difficult. Also, Nicolas Almagro, who was world No. 10, could not play Davis Cup all the time. I was able to play Davis Cup, I would have liked to play it much more, but due to the circumstances of players and captains, I did not have more chances. It was very difficult, but I think that sometimes I could have played more ties, yeah," said Guillermo Garcia Lopez.

Asked if 2011, when he achieved his career-high ranking position, was the best time for him on the professional tour, he replied: "In terms of rankings, I think so. I think my career was very good, solid, without having amazing peaks but a very good rise until the 23rd place. For whatever circumstances there were also times where I delivered my best tennis but it did not show on the rankings."

On his 2017 season, where he dealt with several injuries, Garcia Lopez concluded: "That year I had arm issues. I was dealing with that injury for a long time but I did not really take a break and I made a serious mistake. When you suffer an injury, you have to stop. I wanted to keep playing in order not to lose rankings positions and points. I was told I had to undergo surgery, I did not, I resolved (it) with my physio and now I have no issues."
