France's Pierre-Hugues Herbert hopes new Davis Cup format fails

French doubles specialist Pierre-Hugues Herbert didn't back down when describing how he feels about the new Davis Cup format.

The Davis Cup is set for a huge format change -- starting from the next season -- as the majority of tennis nations voted for the ITF's proposed Davis Cup reform during this year's ITF Annual General Meeting.

The Davis Cup Finals event will now be a one-week long event -- held in November at a neutral venue -- featured by 18 nations.

One tie will consist of two singles and one doubles rubber as a best-of-three-sets format will be used.

A couple of Herbert's teammates from the French team have also spoken against the new format.

France failed to defend their Davis Cup title as they were beaten by Croatia 3-1 on the clay of Lille in this year's final.

"We hope the new format will not work and we will come back to the old one. When we left the stadium, we took a phot of this moment because we don't know if it will be repeated," Herbert said, per Tennis Magazine.

Herbert was a member of the French team that won the 2017 Davis Cup title.

France are expected to be without Pouille going forward as the 24-year-old Frenchman has said multiple times this year that he is planning to boycott the new Davis Cup format.
