Florent Serra Puts His Name for Davis Cup Captaincy

Tennis - Retired French ATP player Florent Serra has said he would like to put his name in the ring for the job of the French Davis Cup team captain. Ranked as high as No. 36 in the world and a two-time winner on the ATP circuit, Serra posted an update on Twitter saying, "Oh guys, I'm just as good as Me Dupond-Moretti when it comes to supporting and defending French tennis in the media (he is a consultant for RMC), so I deserve my status as the biggest underdog for the post of captain (...) I think indeed can continue to convey and transmit certain values representative of our magnificent sport (...) I give you my number if needed. Do not be shy. "

Serra tagged the French Tennis Federation and several of the French players, including Nicolas Mahut, Gael Monfils and Richard Gasquet, in his tweet.

The position has fallen vacant after Amelie Mauresmo announced that she was resgining from the post as she was not happy with the new Davis Cup format and has instead decided to coach Lucas Pouille. The French Tennis Federation will consult all the top players before making a final decision on the new captain. Former Top 10 player Sebastian Grosjean is among the leading candidates for the post.
