I was embarrassed to ask for a photo with Roger Federer: Simona Halep
Simona Halep has a lot of admiration and respect for Roger Federer, not only for being a great tennis player but also an amazing and humble person. In an interview to DigiSport, Halep commented on the photo she took with the Swiss player in Melbourne just before the Australian Open, where he went on to win his 20th Grand Slam title. 'I took a photo with Federer, but Darren helped me. I was a little bit embarrassed to go ask for it. His father and I, we met each other and he told me, "I heard you were feeling embarrassed about asking Roger for a photo,"' Halep said.
Halep is still trying to recover from a back injury. The Romanian player last competed at the China Open in Beijing in late September and she has committed to start her new season at the Sydney International in January.
Speaking about Federer, another Romanian, Victor Hanescu, said: 'Federer has an amazing talent, for what he did as a person on court and off it. He is a special person, a man who has a strong character.'
Federer will start the 2019 season at the Hopman Cup, he is currently training in Dubai.
