Jack Sock set for Kooyong Classic debut
American tennis star Jack Sock will be making his last preparation for the Australian Open at the Kooyong Classic, the exhibition tournament announced.
The 26-year-old is set to debut in Kooyong as he has no previous appearances at the popular Australian exhibition event.
The Kooyong event is held a week before the Australian Open.
Sock won't be returning to Auckland this year after playing there for three consecutive years.
The Auckland event is also held a week before the Australian Open.
The American ended runner-up in Auckland in 2016 before he won it all at the tournament in 2017 -- but he has yet to make a deep run at the Australian Open.
The 26-year-old's best run at the Australian Open came after winning Auckland as he went on to make the third round at Melbourne Park that year.
Sock joins a strong 2019 Kooyong Classic player field as world No. 5 Juan Martin del Potro, world No. 6 Kevin Anderson, seventh-ranked Marin Cilic, 15-time ATP champion Richard Gasquet and Australian tennis star Bernard Tomic are also expected to play.
It remains to be seen will going a different route this time help Sock make a deep run at Melbourne Park.
The Kooyong Classic won't be a four-day event anymore as it will be held for three days from 2019.
The Kooyong event is due to take place from 8-10 January.
