James Duckworth speaks on his Australian Open return, Luke Saville

Australian tennis player James Duckworth couldn't be happier after securing a place in the Australian Open main draw.

Duckworth, ranked at No. 243 in the world, won the Australian Open 2019 Wildcard Play-off this past week to earn a wildcard.

The 26-year-old beat his friend Luke Saville in the final 6-3 5-7 7-5 7-6 (2).

"Super excited to be back playing my favourite tournament again, the Australian Open. You're always a class act, Luke Saville. I'm bloody lucky to call you a mate. It was extremely special to be able to share the court with you," Duckworth wrote on Instagram.

Duckworth, a former world No. 82, is set to make his seventh main draw appearance at Melbourne Park.

The Australian featured in the Australian Open main draw for six consecutive years from 2012 to 2017.

The 26-year-old underwent five surgeries between January 2017 and January 2018.

Duckworth's series of six consecutive Australian Open main draw appearances came to an end this past January when he failed to make it past the Australian Open qualifying as he was beaten in the second round by Ernesto Escobedo.

In his previous six appearances, Duckworth three times made the second round and three times made the second round respectively.

However, the Australian hasn't won a match at Melbourne Park since 2015 as he his last two Australian Open campaigns ended after the first round.
