Per report, Lucas Pouille hires Amelie Mauresmo as new coach

A source has told L'Equipe that French tennis star Lucas Pouille has hired Amelie Mauresmo as his new coach.

The 24-year-old split with his long-time coach Emmanuel Planque last month.

The Frenchman and coach Planque collaborated for six years.

Pouille, ranked at No. 32 in the world, had a disappointing 2018 campaign.

The 24-year-old made a promising start to the year as he reached the finals in Montpellier, Marseille and Dubai, as well as achieved his career-high ranking of No. 10 in the world at the beginning of March before his season went downhill.

Pouille was hoping to end the season on a positive way but failed to win the 2018 Davis Cup title with France.

Croatia won the Davis Cup after 2014 US Open champion Marin Cilic beat Pouille in the fourth rubber to give his side a 3-1 lead.

Splitting with coach Planque didn't come as a surprise as Pouille wants to change some things and get back on the right track in 2019.

Mauresmo, a former world No. 1 and two-time Grand Slam champion, hasn't coached in two and a half years.

Mauresmo collaborated with three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray from June 2014 and May 2016.

Mauresmo's stint with Murray wasn't a big success as the Scot didn't win a single Grand Slam title or achieved his goal of reaching the No. 1 spot while coached by the 39-year-old.
