Roger Federer and his secret trip to Slovakia
In an interview during the Laver Cup in September 2017, Roger Federer had said that he has never visited his wife Mirka's birth country, Slovakia. But now his dream has been fulfilled. In early April, following the Miami Open, Federer reportedly travelled to Slovakia in a private jet with Mirka and their four children. The information has been very private, as the press department of the Slovakia airport said: "We cannot give you infomation on the clients of the airport."
However, Sport24.sk confirmed the news. The Federers visited the Bojnice castle, went to the zoo and visited Mirka's birthplace. In the zoo, Federer was wearing a hat and sunglasses in order not to be recognized. And he partly succeeded in doing it. 'And I thought that nobody would recognize me in Slovakia,' said Federer. 'We had not planned the trip and we decided just the day before. Switzerland is not so far away from Slovakia. We had an hour-and-a-half long flight.'
Federer also visited some pubs. 'I like the Czech beer. And the price? For what I earn on court per minute, I could sit here in the place for a month. I did not even had an economic beer.'
Initially, Mirka did not want to speak too much with journalists. She had her last interview 11 years ago. But she has now made some remarks. 'From my trip with my parents in Switzerland, it changed a lot. But the castle was magical as always, and the zoo was also a very nice place where you can relax. Our daughters wanted to attend the Slovakian library, they have been reading the story about Ape Maya history.'
