Roger Federer trains with Corentin Moutet in Dubai
'Thank you Roger Federer and Severin Luthi for the invitation. An incredible experience'. That's how Corentin Moutet thanked the 20-time Grand Slam champion and his coach for having spent some days training together in Dubai these weeks for the pre-season. Moutet has hired a new coach, Emmanuel Planque, who split with Lucas Pouille a few weeks ago. Under Planque's guide, Pouille achieved a career-high ranking at No. 10 position in March this year, and Moutet hopes to reach high levels as well.
Moutet was not the only Next Generation player who Federer hit with, as the world No. 15 Stefanos Tsitsipas was invited by the Swiss as well.
On Monday night Federer dined with his team members, including Luthi and Ivan Ljubicic (the Croatian reached the place just a few days ago) to discuss whether playing the clay-court season in 2019.
In an interview to Il Tennis Italiano, Moutet was asked if the 1983 French Open Yannick Noah plays a big influence on his career. 'For me, it does not make a difference. Yannick was a tennis champion who has gone. Now, to win Grand Slams you have to face Rafa, Novak, Roger, Stan, Murray... And then being a hope I am not sure it is a good thing. Because you may get burnt and you do not get anything of what you can reach.'
Commenting on today's game, Moutet added: 'I think that in tennis there is a place for everyone. The game is about the strength, but also at Goran Ivanisevic's time there were big guys: and yet, Marcelo Rios became the world No. 1. There are players who have a bigger easiness game, other people who find the way easier because they hit stronger. Many ways exist to breakthrough, I cannot hit 300km/h serves and I have to improve on other aspects.'
