Serena Williams French Open outfits named in the top 5 list of 2018
The nominations for the five best WTA outfits of the year wore by players have been published. The Serena Williams's Catwoman outfit at the French Open - that drew a lot of opinions, including criticism - was included. The French Open organizers hinted that they may not allow the 23-time Grand Slam winner to wear such an outfit, but Serena explained it was because of health reasons. She gave birth just 15 months ago of a daughter called Alexis Olympia.
The 2018 Australian Open featured Caroline Wozniacki winning her maiden Grand Slam title beating Simona Halep in a three-set final. Wozniacki wore a blue and yellow kit in Melbourne.
Andrea Petkovic picked a brilliant outfit at the French Open produced by Adidas, while Karolina Pliskova wore a blue and white outfit at the Porsche Grand Prix Tennis in Stuttgart, where she won the title defeating Coco Vandeweghe. Simona Halep's 2018 French Open Nike outfit - the second Calendar Major of the year marked the Romanian's first triumph at this tournament level - was also picked.
The St. Petersburg Open organizer Vladimir Kamelzon commented on Maria Sharapova's recent performances and the chances to see the Russian at the top again. 'Sharapova is a world tennis star, she has a packed crowd during all their matches. The definition of a player on Tour is given by the number of fans at her matches. Here you can make a comparison with a theatre: people will always go to the best actor. I think she is still there. She got a good result at the US Open. Yes, (Carla) Suarez Navarro defeated her, but the Spaniard is an uncomfortable rival for Maria. She often put Maria on defence and moving her. That was a loss but I think the Russian will be able to play at the highest level and will prepare for the 2019 Australian Open.'
