Stepanek: They said Roger Federer and Nadal were finished
Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic have combined to win a total of 51 Grand Slam titles. They have improved each other and continue to maintain their lead at the top of tennis rankings. Radek Stepanek, a former world no. 8 who worked with Djokovic at the beginning of 2018, said: 'Every year they write new history. You say Federer will not win anything anymore... And then he has three Grand Slams more. You then say that Nadal had so many injuries. And then he became the world no. 1 (again). And so on and so forth. It simply confirms that it is the best era.'
Stepanek also commented on the Serb's comeback: 'Only Djokovic may have surprised me. What he did in the last months is respectable. When I saw what he was going through in the beginning of the year, I was not really trusting him.'
Recalling his farewell from tennis in October at the O2 Arena during the exhibition match played with Djokovic, Stepanek said: 'I tried not to cry when the biggest tennis players wished me good luck. Novak was unbeatable for three months, he is not only a champion but also an amazing man.'
Also Andre Agassi attended Stepanek's retirement ceremony: 'It's an unbelievable honor for me, Andre is a man with a big heart, and we worked together with Novak. In the beginning he had to attend his son's baseball tournament, but five days ago he told me that he could fly.'
On his future, Stepanek concluded: 'I would like to stay in tennis. I may coach someone.'
