Tamira Paszek to Attempt a Comeback in 2019

Tennis - Austria's Tamira Paszek will attempt to make her comeback in 2019. In an interview with ORF, Paszek says she could make a comeback in February or March but has not committed herself to a definite date as of yet. The Austrian said she has toyed with the idea of retiring but the thought of playing at Wimbledon has motivated her to make a comeback. "Of course I played with the idea. But when I sat on the bike and thought about whether I'll never be back at Wimbledon, it made me sad, and so the question has become unnecessary."

Paszek has been plagued by injuries and illnesses in recent years but says she is getting better now. "I have invested enough time, invested nerve, invested the last few years, where I say, you work, work, work. And if there are always setbacks, injuries, illnesses come, then there is also a lack of motivation and development. And I said, for me is the last comeback in terms of time, and I want it for me just to know yourself again."

The 28-year-old Paszek has played only 3 tournaments in the past two seasons due to her health issues. She has won 3 titles on the WTA Tour, the last one coming in Eastbourne in 2012 and she has also reached the quarter-finals at Wimbledon in 2011 and 2012. Her career-best ranking was No. 26 in 2013 and she will probably use her protected ranking to enter tournaments when she makes her comeback.
