Who were the disappointments of the season?

The 2018 season was intense, beautiful and interesting, but not for all tennis players. Some, at the beginning of the year, were called to repeat the great deeds admired in the previous season, but the results were modest, not to say disappointing.

Needless to say otherwise, the biggest disappointments of the season have a name: Grigor Dimitrov and Garbine Muguruza. Regarding the Spaniard, we have talked in depth in an article in the past few days.

About the Bulgarian, the situation can certainly be similar, but different aspects must be considered. The 2017 victory at the ATP Finals seemed to have been the definitive leap of quality for him. At the end of a fruitful season, Dimitrov seemed destined to be the protagonist in 2018. But something did not work.

Probably, he was not able to focus mentally. It seemed as though his ability to handle the pressure this year did not work, and the result was a disappointing year, without progress.

David Goffin, too, failed to get good results this season. But his struggles were because of a series of physical problems that limited his performances. Same for Milos Raonic who, too, endured a disappointing year.

Will all these players be able to change their form in 2019? It's imperative that they do so. Because, for them, it is now or never, because the Old Gen is unreachable, while the NextGen is scrambling to overcome them.
