Younger players don't train as much as Federer, Nadal - Edmund's coach

Kyle Edmund's coach Fredrik Rosengren believes that there is a clear reason why the older players keep dominating over the next generation.

'Federer, Nadal and Djokovic, they are huge but I think it's quite bad that for the young generation of players they often get completely demolished by them,' admitted Rosengren speaking to SourcePodden. 'They don't practice nearly as much as the older players do. They probably spend more time in the gym, rolling on a cylinder and stuff but they don't train the engine, their tennis. There are exceptions of course, Thiem and a couple of others, but the new generation of players doesn't play as much tennis as the older generation did. Nadal is obviously extreme in that matter. For example, the day before the competition in Paris (Masters), Carlos Moya came to me and asked: "Can Kyle play tomorrow from 11-13?" Two hours of practice that is. And then more practice in the afternoon too. There is no one else doing that, among the younger players, definitely not. It's totally inconceivable that they would play so much. That is quite alarming to hear.'

Rosengren then put forth a clear example: 'I have often proposed a week before MonteCarlo: "Are we going to try to meet Nadal and practice with him on clay?" But I think the younger generation is terrified of it. Because they will notice that they can't keep up with it.'
