Zheng Qinwen Recalls her Meeting with Li Na
Tennis - 16-year-old Zheng Qinwen recently met Li Na, one of her idols in tennis, who also hails from the same Hubei province in Central China as Qinwen. Speaking to the ITF website, Qinwen recalls meeting the former Grand Slam champion at Wimbledon this year, “I meet her at Wimbledon this year. She is really nice and I like her so much. She gave some advice to my coach and my coach tell me, and I think what she said was really very good. She told me that when she saw me play I don’t control the ball and I need to control more the ball because sometimes my ball is missing everywhere. She said at my age it’s really important to keep consistency and control, and the power is after that.”
The 16-year-old Qinwen is currently ranked No. 933 in the world and no. 10 in the ITF junior rankings. Qinwen is part of the Grand Slam Development Fund in 2018 during which she won the Eddie Herr International title and reached the final of the Orange Bowl event.
Qinwen was the star of the final Grand Slam Development Fund four-week road trip of 2018, which concluded at the Orange Bowl in Florida earlier this month. She also reached the Osaka Mayor’s Cup final in October. The Grand Slam Development Fund helps talented young players throughout the world with financial assistance to pay for top-level coaching and trips to important international junior tournaments.
