Aryna Sabalenka could make the leap this season

Aryna Sabalenka can take the baton of Victoria Azarenka, and become the new star of Belarusian tennis. but above all, the twenty-year-old can aspire to become one of the greatest tennis players of her generation, thanks to a series of skills that can help her to achieve great goals.

And her rise is increasing exponentially with the passing of tournaments. On 2019 January 5th, she triumphed in Shezhen, winning the third WTA title in a few months. The fourth career title, also considering the 125s of Mumbai, in 2017. At her young age she has already played seven WTA finals, a fourth round in a Major and a Fed Cup final, lost in 2017.

Forehand and service are the her winning weapons, but it is her mental strength that seems to be able to give her an extra boost. Physically and technically she still has great potential to show and improve, but her steady and continuous progress is encouraging. From the mental point of view she is showing a regularity and solidity that her peers do not seem to have.

At the Australian Open she was eliminated at the third round against nthe young Amanda Anisimova. Anywat Sabalenka started 2019 in an amazing athletic shape, and we are pretty sure she will improve it during the rest of the season. Especially between the grass swing and the summer on the North-American courts.

If this happens, the Belarusian will have serious chances to confirm or improve the placement obtained in New York, last September. She will have to learn how to handle the pressure and emotion of a big event in front of her opponents.

Pressure that inevitably came with in the third round of the Australian Open, also due to a very good performance of her opponent. But solidity and regularity are her innate skills, which can only improve. And despite her young age, she already has a good deal of experience on how to handle her tennis. Is it time to show her strength even at the Majors?
