Australian Open: the five-best women's singles matches ever

The curtain rises on the Australian Open 2019! Caroline Wozniacki will have the hard achievement to defend last year's title. Simona Halep, Serena Williams and all the other stars will try to become the new queen of the Australian Major. The courts of Melbourne will become very scorching while the protagonists will compete under the Australian heat. Tennis World would like to recall the five-best men's singles matches at the Australian Open.

1) Jennifer Capriati vs. Martina Hingis - 2002. For the second consecutive year, Capriati defeated Martina Hingis in the Melbourne final after three thrilling sets, ended 4–6, 7–6(7), 6–2, thus winning the second Australian Open title!

2) Serena Williams vs. Venus Williams - 2003. Defeating her sister in the final in three sets for 7–6(4), 3–6, 6–4, Serena won the first Australian Open of her career, and was confirmed as the brightest star of American women's tennis. Then came six more titles in Melbourne, for a total of 7, last of which justin 2017, again against her sister Venus!

3) Martina Navratilova vs. Chris Evert - 1981. Navratilova against Evert was one of the challenges that characterized the 80s. Navratilova defeated the American tennis player after three exciting sets, with the final score of 6–7(4), 6–4, 7–5, winning her first Australian title!

4) Margaret Smith Court vs. Evonne Goolagong - 1971. Smith recovered a set of disadvantage to her opponent, before defeating her in three sets, (final score 2–6, 7–6, 7–5) and winning her 10th title at the Australian Open!

5) Simona Halep vs. Angelique Kerber - 2018. Last year semifinal was one of the most beautiful match of the season, and one of the best in Melbourne. After a very balanced and hard fought match, Halep defeated the German in three sets, with the final score of 6-3 4-6 9-7, reaching her first Australian Open final!
