Grigor Dimitrov explains why he hit with Serena Williams in Melbourne
Grigor Dimitrov hit with his ex girlfriend Serena Williams earlier this week on the Rod Laver Arena at the Australian Open. In an interview, the Bulgarian player explained how it came out. “We’re not friends when we’re on the court, we barely spoke to each other. I was like ‘chill, we’re just hitting’ but she looked the other way so I was like ‘OK no problem’", Dimitrov said laughing. "It’s fun. We spoke after and she said ‘hey thanks’ and I said ‘yeah, for sure’. We have a mutual feeling. It’s good to have those kind of hits to be honest. You can always learn a little something from whoever is on the other side of the net. We often hit actually, it just happened for everybody to be there that day.”
Asked on what aspect the eight-time Grand Slam winner Andre Agassi helped him the most so far, Dimitrov replied: “I can’t name one particular thing because we’ve worked on a couple of things in particular like patterns but that’s the easy part. He just makes me better. I learn something every day from a business point of view to tennis points. He’s such a nice and open person and he’s willing to just give himself in a different way. I think he’s pretty amazing and that’s where the best friendships come about. Tennis is a pretty lonely sport if you think about it. So it’s so nice to have someone you can share what you feel on the court and your deepest thoughts, your darkest thoughts, your concerns, your fears. There’s nothing better than when you can share that with someone who’s super high on that intellectual level but also have gone through what you’ve gone through or you can relate to.”
