Hopman Cup: Roger Federer dismantles Frances Tiafoe in a sprint match!

Twelve months after he won the Hopman Cup crown with Belinda Bencic, Roger Federer has stayed on the title defense course following a one-sided 6-4 6-1 win against the young American Frances Tiafoe in just 57 minutes. The Swiss star drew the packed crowd at the RAC Arena just like two days ago when he toppled Cameron Norrie and his fans had a chance to see another rock solid performance from the world no. 3, dropping just 11 points in his service games and never facing a break point (he had to save five against the Briton in the opening set).

Federer's serve proved to be too tough to handle for Tiafoe and the American could never repeat that performance in his games, struggling on both the first and second serve to get broken three times from five chances he offered to Roger. Frances saved a break point in the opening service game to settle into a nice rhythm, hoping for a similar level of tennis he showed against Federer at the US Open in 2017 and staying in touch until 4-4. We saw two deuces on Roger's serve in the ninth game but the Swiss stayed focused to bring the game home after a backhand down the line winner, breaking Tiafoe in the following game for a 6-4 in 35 minutes following a huge backhand error from the American.

There was only one player on the court in set number two, with Federer rattling off one good service game after another and keeping the pressure on his rival who couldn't deal with it. Tiafoe sprayed another backhand error in the second game to suffer a break and Federer was 4-0 up in no time at all when the youngster missed a backhand slice in the fourth game to seal his fate. Serving for the match at 5-1, Roger hit three winners to seal the deal and secure another impressive win for his country.
